First clutch ever!!!
« on: March 02, 2009, 07:29:08 PM »

So, I got the eggs into the incubator- turns out Burm did take, bred with my spider male.  ( BTW, Burm is a ball python, she is the biggest girl I have, hence the name burm b/c she looked massive..lol)

Total egg count- 12.  But I think one is a dud- i did place it in the incubator away from the other clutch. I think it is a dud b/c it is much smaller, and it rolled out- so it wasn't attached to the pile. But, I got pics of it, so if its a dud, I can remove it next time I check the eggs.

In the tub

they stuck to the newspaper, and I didn't want to pull it off...

And here is the little egg...

I think it's knda cute, b/c small things are cute, right?

And there are no pics of bite wounds, I can say I have yet to be bit by a bp ( its the smaller snakes that get me)  She didn't strike at all, hissed, but never went for me.  Mom is washed off and back into her clean cage.

About the eggs, how do they look? The black stuff is the newspaper, but the yellow stuff? Are they bad? I only saw that on a few of them... but well, this is the first time I got eggs, so I am hoping they look good!

Now the countdown begins!

I'd watch the yellow stuff... if you can get them apart that would be good, but be careful not to turn them at all. Anything you see starting to get moldy or rot get out of there. Make sure not to make the humidity too high, the eggs will drown, but if any are dimpling in, you need to bump the humidity just a little bit. looks like they may have been there a little while before you found them? but we shall see, best of luck to you and congratulations!

Yeah, I couldn't take them out right away, I was having problems getting incubator material ( the vermiculite).  Due to some issues, I wasn't expecting them this soon, but i'll know better for next time.

Bummer about the yellow spots, I will try to seperate them and place them in a seperate tub in the incubator. So is that what mold/ eggs going bad look like? I only saw it on those 2, but when I seperate those, i'll look the others over better.  luckily they are on the outside. And I did mark the tops with an x, so i can place them in the right spot afterwards.  :D

Thanx for your advice! Yeah, I am pretty excitied.

:D

no, the yellow isn't mold, they won't get moldy for a few days and only if they're bad.

Ahh ok, hence why it would be better to remove them now in case they go bad- to not contaminate the others...;)

I hope they don't go bad tho, but we'll see!

Congrats and good luck!  They look good overall, but that little one definitely looks like a slug to me.
