I was cleaning my retics tote the other day and I noticed that he had what seemed to be hot spots on some parts of it's belly. I've never came across this. What can be the cause to this?

Seems like it is. It's a plastic tote. There is nothing in there besides the water dish.

nothing as in no substrate? You're not keeping them on carpet or anything, are you? What kind of water dish? how is it heated? how are you controlling the heat... come on man, details, what is the enclosure like?

Plastic tote. Substrate is newspaper. Ceramic water dish for dog (got from petco) It's heated by a heatflex heat pad. Have a digital thermostat outside hanging. Dial is at 90 for heat. Humidity is at 75

what dial? and a hanging digital thermometer? not going to work, you're gonna have to get a temp gun and find out the SURFACE temp of the hot spot. if you're getting 90 with a digital thermometer I'm betting it's a whole lot hotter than that.

Yeah, it's a hanging digital one. The retic is always on the hot spot though? When I take him out he seems warm. But most def need to get a temp gun

yeah, they're not expensive bro. One of two things is happening, either he's urinating and laying in it on the heat causing a bacterial infection (the start of scale rot), or he's burning himself on that hot spot. Either way, need to keep it clean and the temps right. How big is this animal now? haven't you had it a couple of years?
