Temp gun questions
« on: November 28, 2011, 03:24:24 AM »
I have the PE1 temp gun and when I take the temp from 8" away vs 5" away etc it's always different. I just took the temp right now from about 2" away and it read 91 and then I took it from 5" away and it read 87. Is there something wrong with my temp gun? How far do you guys take temps off the enclosure ground??

This is a interesting question.   I could see this happening if there is a big difference in the ambient temp in the room and the tempeture of the enclosure.  But I wouldnt think that a couple of inchs would make that much difference.  Mine seems to make no difference how far away or how close to a point.  It reads the temp at the point that the wave is stopped.

My PE2 doesn't read any different at 2" or 8" either. What's the ambient air temp in the room?

i think these temp guns throw out a "cone shaped" reading (i couldent find any words to better describe it)  as a "lazer" temp gun gets its reading from the direct line that the lazer hits..
what im trying to say is if you hold the temp gun  streight down (fully veryical) youll get  lets say a 2" parameter reeding if the gun is held 4" away from the target..  if the gun is held 8" away from the target, the paramiter is going to get bigger giving you slightly different readings...
now heres the whole point that im getting at,,,,,  if you take a reading at 4" (vertically) you might get 88*  but, if you take the same reading from 4" from the target, but are holding the gun at an angle,,, your widening your parameter, and this might be giving you the difference.
   just a thought?????????,,,

Well the PE1's D:S ratio is 1:1 where I think the PE2 is 6:1
