ATB cage question
« on: February 06, 2009, 11:00:29 PM »
What is the best and safest way to setup and heat an ATB cage? Use flexwatt belly heat or should i be more concerned about air temp?

When it comes to ATB the best way to heat the cage is using a Radient heat pannel. yea you can offer belly heat, but generaly the only time they are on the ground is maybe durring the day ion their hide   if its on the ground (my atb has a hide on the ground) if you have a large enough cage offering both is a great thing ^^. a + to raident heat pannels hwoever is that while they do produce a nice amount of heat, they will not burn your reptile if they get to close to them.

so an ambient temperature is more important when it comes to ATBs. Or am i just thinking this way too hard. I have one care sheet that explains that they spend upto 50% of their time on the cage floor, is that accurate or does it depend on the animal? I guess everything i have read says they are relativly easy to keep and compared to retics they seem easier. I am ready for a challenge i just want to make sure i have an adequate house for it.

they are mostly on the flor durring the day as they are nocturnel.  i honestly don't have any excess heat scources on mine atm since my snake room itself varries between 85-95 degress depending on the temp outside  i rarely have to actualy use any other heat scource depending.

man i wish i had that here but thanks to michigan winters i have to fight with my area to keep it around 70. But sounds like i am on the right track and once i upgrade down the road i may have to get a radiant heat panel.
