Rescued Boa
« on: August 31, 2011, 07:41:37 AM »
About a month ago I get a phone call. It goes like this. "Is this Roland', "The snake guy", 'I have got a Boa here thats sick, do you want it".   I begin to ask what is wrong with the snake, I can't take a chance with it possibly infecting my snakes. He says' "Come and fetch it or it goes in the Deep Freezer". Cut a long story short, 45 minutes later I pick up a Boa of about 5 foot with a severe RI, who does not look too good, and seems dehydrated as well.   :sign7:

I immediately put him on high heat, up the humidity a bit and nebulise him every day for 30 - 40 minutes.   :sign161:

Three weeks later he eats a small Rat and sheds in one lovely unbroken piece.

A couple of days later, Glorious Weather, I put him on the lawn.   :happy64:

I just need to add that the option of taking him to a vet was always present, but I was confident to treat him myself.
Mission Accomplished, Full Recovery.   :award:

Good job! And his immune system hasn't been weakened by the meds the vets would have given him. Congrats! Do you have any idea what kind of enclosure they were keeping him it? was it something with a screen top?

The enclosure was a wooden one with sliding glass doors, it did not have any lighting or heating, and we went through a two week period where the temp did not get above 66.

Doesn't need any lighting at all... light is of no benefit to boas, it just stresses them out and makes the healing process take longer. The lack of heat explains the RI though, and the wood explains the dehydration.
