Hey guys, I am planning on getting a Carpet python in a matter of months and just wanted to make a thread so you guys could post pics and tell me what your favorite things about them are because I would really love to hear more about carpets thanks in advance i'm so excited to get mine and I think they are such cool/beautiful snakes!!!
I have several videos posted under the video section of my adult Coastal Carpet Python. They are amazing snakes and many people overlook the fact that they are semi-arboreals, not arboreals and try to house them like the arboreals and this creates health related issues. They don't require misting or fog machines and actually don't like high humidity.
They also love to have a branch or perch so they can be off the ground and their natural feeding preference is from a perch striking their food, dropping down and spinning around the feeder and eating it from this downward position.
Young juveniles are very defensive for a few months but with persistence and handling they outgrow that defensive behavior really fast. I've been told many of the Jungle Carpet Pythons for some reason refuse to stop with the defensive and aggressive behavior however.
Carpet Pythons are like children with ADHD !!! They are very curious love to always be moving and going outside the enclosure but they are really easy to handle and work with. They love to explore and mine is outdoors frequently and he stays right by my side the entire time.
My Coastal is nine feet long and will be three years old in September and I'm getting a female Coastal in August to raise to breed with my male eventually.
They are great snakes !! Mine loves attention and bonding with people and a Carpet is a great choice for a captive bred snake to raise.
Any questions please feel free to contact me.
