Sick ball
« on: September 28, 2010, 03:25:58 PM »
I could not help feeling for this guy....
He has been at the store... maybe a month..and hasn't eaten once.. I doubt if he has eaten a thing since hatching and seems to have a sort of head wobble... I imagine it's similar to what spiders get... he tends to curl his head in to one side often... Though at this point I am not sure if this is due to malnourishment or a real neurological problems...time will tell i suppose... He will right himself when placed upside down at least.
He seems to be pretty well hydrated but is VERY skinny and rather listless... isn't moving a whole lot but did find a comfortable spot in his cage when i brought him home... no tongue flicking what so ever....
So basically.. I am going to try getting him to eat... if I can at least get that far and get him back on a good weight then I can see if he has mental issues or not.... one step at a time...

Well frick....
Came home from class to see him like this.....

Much more concerned about the possiblity of IBD now...
Tried feeding him and it seemed like he had a good response... put a fuzzy mouse right in front of him first and nothing.. so was getting ready to force food, barely nudged him behind the jaws and he opened his mouth and took it...but then stopped... i left him alone for 30 mins to see if he might eat... nothing.... so..ended up forcing him that one and another fuzzy mouse. while maneuvering them to his stomach i noticed his back end getting swollen so with some gentle massaging i got him to... pee? I didn't know snake urates where yellow.. and if their not normally then that adds to this guy not being well.... a bit of liquid came out and a rock hard little piece of..what i imagine is crap... (ignore the blood, it was from the thawed feeders)

back end still swollen though and when i press to try and see if anymore liquid comes out a clear jelly like substance becomes visible but will not come out..and i don't want to force anything because i honestly do not know if this is part of the snakes body or some other obstruction o.o
Have never seen a clear jelly inside of any animal..... any ideas?

I feel i may have bitten off more than i can chew this time....
----------
Oh and... in case you didn't get how skinny he was before....

I feel so bad I hadn't seen him earlier :(

Yeah, pythons with IBD don't last long, and it looks like that's a prime suspect for what happened here. Now that your employer knows IBD has passed through that store, what's he gonna do about it?

He doesn't know yet, not positive it is...they wont send out for a necropsy and most likely don't even know what IBD is....
Chances are they won't do anything.....

How ever if it is IBD the other pythons will show it soon and it;s HIGHLY doubtful that anyone will buy them before it shows.... normal balls for $80... it's a miracle we sell them at all.....

those actually sell pretty good because that's where alot of less experienced people go. And if he has it, chances are every boid within in a few yards from where he was has it. usually baby pythons show it and die pretty quick, but I've heard of some cases, especially in boas of not showing any symptoms for 6 months. It's highly contagious and there's no treatment for it.

That doesn't mean anything at all, this is ibd we're talking about here. May not show signs for 6 months, spreads inevitably fast, and whipes out entire collections.

For the record,  the only time ibd has ever been in my house was a boa from petco back in 2005. Luckily i didn't exactly have a collection to speak of at the time. That shit will spread via hands, clothes, feeding utensils,, tubs,, some say it may even be airbourne
