The Olympus Stylus SW series cameras or the Olympus Tough Cameras are PERFECT for any crazy field herper. I've taken mine hiking, snuba diving, and rattlesnake hunting. They're waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, heat-proof, cold-proof, and weather-proof all-around. They don't take very "artsy" photos, but they take pretty great shots, and are relatively cheap on eBay!!
