So i went in early this morning to clean out Eclipse's cage. For those of you who don't know she is living at the school in my science teachers room now, keep in mind that the science rooms have the big lab tables in the back with sinks, outlets ect. stuff ya might need for science... anyways i went in to clean and as i usuall do i set her on the counter next to her tank, when i clean the cage is her chance to get out and explore a bit...usually the science teacher is there with me as an extra set of eyes but today she stepped out of the room for a second...so today of course eclipse decided to actually do some exploring instead of just sitting there like a good little snake as she usually did...
So I am putting new towels in the cage, back turned for literally less than a minute and i turn around to put her back in and she's gone... I started looking around like..where could she possibly have gotten to? she's never been stupid enough to slide off the tables but wasnt on the floor anyhow... so I'm looking around and i glimps over the edge of the sink to see the tip of her tail dissappear down the drain!
At this point I was having a slight heart attack and ran out to find my teacher so she could unlock the cabinet beneath the sink and i could tear it apart to get her out! She unlocked the doors and called a janitor to come up with some tools and i set to work unscrewing the lid of the acid trap (little chamber that nuetralizes any materials put down the drain) hopeing that if she climbed down she'ed be stuck in there...but of course she wasn't...
Turns out she had found a nice resting spot in the pipe connecting two sinks together that carried the water from both into the acid trap, she kept moving between the two sinks and sticking her head up out of the drain to watch us! I really wish i had my camera..thats really not something you expect to see in a sink drain! little black and white snake head poking out lol
Eventually though the janitor came up and pulled the pipes apart and we managed to get her out unharmed!
Lesson learned.... next time i clean she goes in to a snake proof holding tank...
