uhm the BP came yesterday morning. but he is like hiding in the hollow tree like all day, and i dont wanna stress him out too much so i didnt make any pics, as there is little to see anyways. but thats the reason i would like some less shiny lamps, as, i guess, hes hiding away for the light. yesterday when i put out the light he came out. but my problem is: the lights are the main heating source. but if i wanted to switch to heat mats, what wattage should i use? ive got a 20W for in the night when the lights are out.

if you use an undertank heater you just need one that covers about 1/4 of the floor but not more than 1/3. And you'll also need a rheostat and temp gun to go with it to check your surface temps, or a thermostat with the probe placed between the under tank heater and the glass. This will not heat the air, it will only provide the 90 degree basking spot. All I have in my cages is belly heat as well (flexwatt specifically). As long as they have that 90 degree basking spot and the air stays above 75 you're fine. There's a small space heater in my snake room that just keeps the room above 75.

he likely won't come out and use his hot spot if the light's on.  And you also have to remember that our core body temp is 98.6, an 82 degree animal isn't gonna feel as warm as one might think.

these all are pics of my only Ball. i have him for 2 weeks now and i didnt find a name yet  :D the photos are a bit blurry as they all are taken with a camcorder lol ive also made a youtube vid of these pics and some clips. the video can be found here: Ball Python handling

here he hangs out of my bed, in which i let him wonder off :)

he found a new hobby: lying in his waterbowl (he only does that when he is not hiding in his tree lol)
