Thermostat
« on: January 19, 2009, 04:46:32 PM »
I'm looking at different thermostat models to use on the melamine cage we just built for our burm.  I'm leaning towards the Herpstat Digital Proportional with the night drop.  Was wondering if anybody has one of these or has used them before and can let me know how they are?  I've looked at the Helix but decided I liked the Herpstat better out of the two.  Guessing that's what i'll end up with, just wanna hear what anybody has to say about it first.

I have a Helix, and I am happy with it.

I have heard, however, that the Herpstat is much better. I would go with it.

both are gonna do more than well enough for what you're wanting to do. But if you look in the product review section on my post about helix, I don't think there is better customer service than that...

Yea Donnie I read through that whole thread and then looked at the site you said you ordered yours through and they don't carry the herpstat just the helix.  I like the design of the herpstat a bit better than the helix.  They're both about the same it looks like, I just wanted to know if anybody has had any bad experiences with the herpstat before I went with it.  Doesn't look like there is so far.  Thanks guys.

like I said, either one will do more than well enough. How are you heating this cage? I just use flexwatt in my melamine burm and retic cages.

It's exactly like your cages Donnie lol.  We liked your design alot and it's way cheaper than buying plastics.  We're using flexwatt in all the ones we'll be building.

yeah, just lay your probe on top of the flexwatt, and then lay the tile over it. Set it at 92 or 93 and it'll set about perfect. I found I lose about 2.5 degrees through tile so setting it at 93 gets me exactly 90.5 degrees surface temp.
