Herpin in Snake road!
« on: May 05, 2010, 01:36:33 PM »
One of my other sites does a trip to snake road, illinois every year and this year i was actually able to go!!

My first time at snake road and I feel it was a very productive trip! We didn't seem to find as many venomous as they usually do but we still got a great variety of herps!
First herp of the trip was a 5 lined skink that stowed away in our wood in the back of randy's truck.... he must have had an interesting journey..

Once we got settled we went out and flipped some rocks in a creek, found lots of sallies :)

long tail

Cave

Slimy

AND a nice fat marbled...

Up in the bluffs we found a few of these nice little plants. jack in the pulpit?

Some frogs now...there were cricket and leopard frogs EVERYWHERE!!! Especially after the rains!

Cricket frog

Bull frog

Green tree

Grey tree

Walking the road at night we saw lots of moths and  dung beetles on crap (literally) I never new moths and butterflies had such an affinity for crap....

lots of dragon flies out as well

First snake we found!
A nice rough green, how the hell kelly even saw it is beyond me...

went on to find 4 of those....

and a LOT of these! cuteness
ringnecks

One big black rat was spotted.... lovely thing musked the hell out of kevin....and it was rather rancid.....

Came across a very joyful speckled king...doesn't he look happy to see us

and only a few cottons on this trip, this one isn't my best photo but it was the first we saw...that only stuck around for a brief moment before taking off

Possible Northern water snake... Kevin has a video of my awesome snake wrangling skills with this one somewhere >=)

Was an awesome trip and i really hope i can go again sometime!

oh yeah....
redneck ingenuity doesn't always work....

After our tent collapsed from the storm we decided just to head back early...
I was staying with Kevin from Ridgetop Reptiles. He's not on this forum so i'm sure most of you here don't know but he has lots of nice animals...
Heres some stuff from areas around his house. We went to some forest part thing in the area and got some nice shots.

Geese blocking our path

some nice tree fungus

more fungus...i like shrooms

Spiral

I just thought this one looked cool

Beautiful creature was on his last flight i'm sure. He was way to still and calm to have been a healthy one...

leopard frog

extreme toady face!

and back to kevins house we went to shoot some of his critters!
I got to mess with the copper some :) fun stuff!

Someone made mention that chicks should never name guys snakes.... well i named this one....

his name is sexy face....

heres one of his newer arrivals... albino patternless bull

Random fluffy

And i honestly cannot believe what he is so afraid of....

Even the regalis was calm and pretty sweet. absolutely non aggressive. she even sat on my hand for a moment. These were from dustin I believe. Beautiful animals dude! I am in love with this girl...she actually let me pet her...and t's aren't usually the petting type animals lol

And the end of my trip..... back home to florida.

Those are some of the greatest pics!! I love the ringnecks. I use to catch baby ones when I was a kid, and it was so cute because they would try to bite me but their mouths were to small to grab anything!

Anyway, kick ass pics. I'm glad you had a great time!
