I dunno about your critters, but everything I have here that eats insects, even the ones that showed no interest in crickets go NUTS over some dubias ;) much healthier for them too.

I breed both dubia and crickets in bulk....

personally, I think crickets get a bad rap.

yes they are slightly harder to breed than dubia, but they are cheaper and cycle much faster so in the end they are a much more economical feeder.

Yes the whole "shell to meat" argument. I understand that one also but in reality, the best diet is a variety in ANY animal. So a couple dubia offered with a couple crickets would be better than just dubia IMHO. And the argument over smell, they both molt. Dubia release MUCH more fluid excretions daily and eat much more.
The smell attributed to crickets is mostly due to bad husbandry, plus you must accept their life cycle= HOPEFULLY a higher death rate. Just a fact of numbers. I can buy 12 crickets at a local pet shop and within 6 months, I can have over a 1000 easily. And that is of any size cricket. Try that with adult  dubias.

I definitely dont want to buy feeders again. I HATE crickets, lol.

so figure out how many insectivores you have, multiply that by the number they eat daily then multiply that by 365 days, then divide that by 480.

That is the number of adult female dubias you will realistically require(that is double the number that most will give you as a bare minimum)

If your animals eat daily, I would run my colony 1.4 to ensure they are breeding at an optimum.

Over 1.4 and dubia males begin to compete for territory whihc will stress the colony and lead to premature death rates.

I run 1000 females per large blue tub.

Honestly Gary, you could give me 5 and I'd be pleased. As long as I can double check the my geckos will eat them, then I am satisfied. Especially before I make a purchase that Chad most likely won't agree with anyway.....which is nothing new around here! LOL

If one of my geckos eat them, I'm sure all of them will :D

are you even using the mealies you got from me?

Oh most definitely! I think I have one gecko that doesn't eat mealies, but all the rest do! And my tokays dig them as well.

then some dubias and a proper cricket variety would really spruce up their diet...

did you get the humidity down in those tubs i whined about yesterday?
