How do you keep your roaches? I'm looking for something a little easier to work with than the deli cups they send em home in.

I keep my blaptica dubias in an 18 Gallon opaque "sterilite" tub with a partial screen top.  I found directions for the screen-top online (cut 8" x 8" hole in top, hot glue some plastic knitting web/screen onto it).  In the bin are some empty boxes and egg crate, as well as a food dish and a dish of water crystals - the kind you get for crickets.  I also ran a strip of packaging tape around the inside top edge to make sure no wayward roach can reach the top and try to escape.

If I can keep my one cat from knocking the damn tub around, usually they are happy as can be.

I just got my batch of 200 small nymphs like...wow, 3 weeks ago.  I'm not feeding out of it too heavily (i.e. only when I want to see Macha house some hapless bug, which isn't too often).  I'm waiting for them to grow up and start a real colony of awesome.

i've got the exact same set-up and my roaches have started breeding and maturing. I'm gonna add about a 100 more mixed nymphs sometime next week and i'll be all set to start seriously feeding in around a month..i'll get some pics up of the bin and the inside tomorrow after i clean out the molts lol I clean it once every 2weeks since i don't have a huge amount.

I am running low since i only recieved 5 females and 5 males so i'm putting in another order now for a hundred or so dubia =P

I also feed em fruits 2-3 times a week the white in there is the remains of 4 or 5 orange pieces lol

I keep mine in a really big Rubbermaid with the inside of the lid cut out and replaced with screen. Allows me not to worry about it getting tipped over and roaches getting out while keeping things ventilated nicely. :)

do you keep your bin somewhere dark? the roaches are nocturnal and they do best in the dark.
