Every spring and summer I breed both Colossal Rats, Small Rats And Degus (Native Food Source Of My Argentine Boas) for feeders for my collection of snakes. This is if weather permits I have cages and a building some of the cages are housed in that I raise the feeders in.
I prefer to know what my feeders are eating prior to being fed to my snakes and I can maintain clean sanitary conditions while housing them and raising them this is something that gets quite often taken as less than a serious issue in some pet stores end result being parasites, infections and diseased rats being used unknowingly to feed people's reptiles.
It's time consuming, expensive but at least I know my snakes are getting great quality feeders.
The end of summer they are all stocked in the freezer for the snakes.
