You tell me
« on: February 28, 2010, 02:41:20 PM »
Okay so I want a Breaded Dragon. But I have been reading on them and they dont seem easy to care for. And I also have school and you have to feed them 3 times a day. And well my parents said I could get another snake and not the beardie. So I was thinking Ball Python. Always loved them. So my question is do you think I should get the Beardie or the Ball?

Bearded dragons are probably the easiest lizard species that you'll get as a starter to be honest.  Ball pythons or corn snakes will what people say are the easiest for starter snakes.  Beardie's require different things and more of a constant daily care than the ball python would but it's all in what you're looking for!  If I could have more, I'd probably get a beardie as a lizard.  They're chill little lizards that don't get too large :)

I have two balls and one is a spaz that won't stay still on your lap for anything and the other is still shy and stays balled up.  Each animal to an extent will be different just like people or any other animal ;)

I'd go with the BP, simply because you're wondering about time and amount of care involved.  The BP you CAN spend more time on when you have it, but don't HAVE to like you would the beardie.

beardeds are very easy to care for and here is a quick breakdown of a daily routine, feeding wise. give them salad in the mornings, in a large dog food bowl, this will insure they eat the proper amount of greens and veggies. then in the midday evening give them all the crickets they will eat, don't put more then they will eat in the cage because leaving live crickets in the cage with a lizard is like a live mouse with a snake. you can put all the lights you need on timers so you just set them 12 on 12 off and pretty much forget about them.

Babies do need different feeding/light/substrate than what an adult can handle.  I don't know all the exact specifics but here's a good site too: http://www.beardeddragoncare.net/

the lighting/heat schedule is the same with babies as adults. 12 hours on 12 hours off with at least a 10% uvb bulb, heating with a halogen basking light and as for feeding you just have to feed them assorted bugs yes, only difference really in feeding a baby and adult is adults eat far more vegetables then crickets. the babies need more insects than they need vegetables, with calcium and vitamin  dust. but anyways, i didn't know you was getting a hatchling. if you get a juvie they are alot easier all around then babies.

Well my snakes are my pets right now. I am not thinking of breeding my snakes yet. At least not the two I have now.
