If you are dead set on getting a Retic i would recommend a main land over a dwarf, dwarf mix, SD, or SD mix as your first one... Reason being is that dwarf mixes and SD mixes tend to be a bit aggressive at first and really flighty... TBH they can be NUTS... I don't mean that in a bad way, just it takes some experience to deal with em and get used to them... I have everything for mainlands to pure SD's so I can speak from experience... Now if you can get PURE SD (super dwarf) or a PURE locale dwarf, that wouldn't be as bad... They are a bit  nippy as babies, but are tiny so the bite is no biggie... The other thing about SD's, Dwarfs, and any Dwarf combos is they are FAST as hell, and the love to try to "get away" so it takes some time to calm em down... Mainland Retics do get A LOT bigger when adults, but IMHO are TONS easier to work with as babies, and can be very calm if you get one from a good reputable breeder... If you don't think you can care for a 20ft + snake one day, and again are dead set on a retic I would recommend finding a older Dwarf or SD that has been worked with well and calmed down... It is gonna cost more, but you get what you pay for! Hope this helps...

If you are interested in anything let me know... I have a few things available, and have a friend that breeds pure SD's...

Great timing on this topic about glass tanks. My female Ball Python struck the warm end of her TANK where the sun had been hitting it and she struck with a vengeance and missed and hit the glass so bad it knocked her out and she was bleeding from every crevice on her head. I rushed her to the vet where she was on Iv's for two days and she did recover but she has a small lump on her nose from the impact. Now this is a five foot Ball Python in a thirty gallon tank I'm talking about she had plenty of striking space.

People are SO wrong if they don't think a snake striking against glass can't hurt it because I almost lost my Ball Python and it was my fault because I keep all my enclosures close to windows (for U.V. rays) and neglected the fact that the sun was heating up the glass so to the snake it was food.

Very wise choice myself I would say anything that is of good size shouldn't be kept in glass. I usually take all my snakes out to eat but that day my ball python was in pre-shed so I didn't want to stress her out by taking her out.

Good idea. Retics aren't bad snakes at all, for me they've always been more tolerable of humans than the boas. But because of their sheer size and power, they're definately a snake for the more experienced keeper. Good luck! Can't wait to see pics of your next new addtion.

This is a really informative post.
Thumbs up to all of you!

I just wanted to throw in though, that everything Donnie and everyone else is saying about Burms vs. Retics are true - Burms are a bit slower, Retics are a bit more agile, etc - but as far as true "tame-ability" goes, it really does vary from individual to individual. I've met some big, vicious, temperamental Burms and some slow, laid-back, lazy Retics.

Really really good post. Great read for anyone thinking about getting into bigger snakes.
