Well that is true... an animal released in florida is a bigger threat than an animal released in ohio, but that's not the point. The point is people need to be educated, that's why we have forums like this one.
That should be the major purpose for any forum. To help educate the public, help people that need advice and assistance with their reptiles if they have doubts or questions.

I have to give Dark Side 100% credit for the goals and causes here.

I really think people that are getting BIG snakes should have to do some sort of interview or answer some questions but we know the pet stores can't take on the added responsibility and for sure the breeders don't always concern themselves with who the snake goes to and if they have any experience and can take good care of the snakes.

Just not enough manpower to insure they all go to good homes and that stinks because everyone has to deal with the bashing from people against the responsible keepers.
WE SEE NEWS STORIES ENTITLED “WHEN PETS GO BAD,” BUT OFTEN A MORE APPROPRIATE TITLE IS “WHEN PET OWNERS TURN STUPID!!!”

I can see where Crown is coming from. I feel kinda annoyed too that everyone points the blame at Florida and the owners. I know Ratchet that you werent saying we are all ignorant so i am not mad at anyone on this site or thread for that matter. I just can't stand people outside the state that are on other forums that go pointing fingers at everyone here in Florida. Since I live here in Central Florida I get into it with quite a few people on other sites and such like youtube and what not that make videos blaming the entire state of Florida which is wrong. I'm sorry but this was a problem all the way back in the 1980's and yet they did nothing about it. Most of the snakes that are in the Glades now are from snakes that didn't get let go. They escaped when hurricane Andrew hit. Most people don't realize that released pythons are a very very small portion of what is now feral in the glades. I believe people need to be more educated and I don't agree with punishing other states for our problem either. Those are just some of my opinions and facts. Understand I am not upset with anyone on here I am just stating that other people who don't word there posts correctly(which you made it clear Ratchet in your first post that you were talking about the ignorant people here in the state and not the state as a whole) get on my nerves.

i watched a wonderfully exaggerated special on the history channel today about this very issue...referring to burms as "monsterous deadly snakes" and they are taking over southern florida and in time will move as far north as washington DC...later on in the show they said they would move into the northern regions of new york as far as New York...also said pythons could survive in New York City and that it is possible for large pythons such as burms to breed and flourish(since "global warming" is heating up the Earth)...i feel that we will lose this battle if more and more fear is spread throughout the uneducated population...so many people just dont want to learn out of shear fear due to these specials on these dangerous monsters, its extremely heartbreaking.

Try to angle the conversation starting out with something they're interested in or relates to them in some way and then just ease into what you're ultimately trying to teach them.
