Heating pads?
« on: December 18, 2009, 12:12:31 AM »
I have a question, if i was to use a sterilite container i was wondering could i use a small heating pad with they adjustable dial under the container? My friend uses one on her tank and her temps are fine but thats a glass tank and im wondering would it melt the plastic like a UTH or would it work better than a UTH? and my snake still wont eat :( its making me sad...Im hoping to be getting a 5 foot female BP in the next few days...well she is a several inches short of 5 feet she is 5 years old and in good health so if I get her i will be posting pics of my new addition :)

If you can be sure the heating pad is stable, it will not melt the tub. It would have to get well over 120F to melt plastic I do believe. Before you do this though, make sure you test it without the snake in the tub and read the temps at different dial turns. Also, take into consideration the temperature of the room at different times of the year so you can adjust it. It should work, but it will take a little tinkering to get it perfect.

You need a temp gun for this to work correctly. it will probably be about the same price to get a temp gun, a foot of flexwatt, 2 drop cords and a dimmer switch as it will be to buy a new heating pad which will probably have a timer on it. I'd definately go the flexwatt route if I were you. If you need any help configuring it, let us know.

I second that! I know both Donnie and I can explain it well, so feel free to ask :)

Ok thanks guys...and the heating pad is one i have already with a level dial not a timer...i found it last night but it was only gonna be temp since the snake was going to be dropped off on such a short notice and it was suppose to come at the end of the night after i got off work when everything is closed with my work schedule i wouldnt have had time to get the necessary equipment and set up until my off days ...but it doesnt look like its going to come :( maybe next time.
