Are there any slim design heat lamps/basking lamps?
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:08:44 PM »
I just got 2 Companion Cages to try and make sense of my dragon collection. Each cage has 2 48 inch lights over it, one standard fluorescent, and one UV. The cage has a heating system, but I dont know how to add heat lamps for basking. There isnt much room above each cage because the lights are attached to the underside of the above cage. I have a little bit of space between the two tubes to mount something. I was thinking maybe I can retrofit some of those thin halogen lights that you see on some torch lamps. They get pretty hot. Any ideas/suggestions?

Please bear with me, the cages are not done :)

Do radiant heat panels get hot enough? or maybe you could do like some monitor keepers and use pig blankets?

What about some of the hallogen heat lights and then have a wired enclosure somehow around the light so that they don't burn themselves?  I'm not really good at making things, handywork, but just was thinking of things that could be done.  You're looking for basking lamps right?

Yeah, I need something that gives off enough heat for their hot spot. Whoever designed these cages must have had a brain fart that day. If I'm lucky, I have about 2-3 inches of room to mount something.

Ahhh well not sure about that.  Maybe the heat panels like Donnie had suggested?

I'm going to have to ask around on the bearded forum. I'm not sure that belly heat or radiant heat is comparable to basking heat. If it is, then I shouldn't have any problems. I appreciate everyones input.

Yeah not sure either.  Sorry, maybe some of our lizard keepers will chime in sometime.

Radiant heat actually mimics sun heat much better than lights do... but it's just heat only.
