Super Hybrid Pythons ... OF DOOM?!?
« on: October 09, 2009, 03:28:44 PM »
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/09/090911-pythons-florida-giant-snakes.html

Page 2 of the article postulates on a rogue Burm / Afrock hybrid that would possibly devour the state of Florida, maybe even Georgia.

Funny what googling "African Rock Python" can turn up when feeling lucky  :snake1:

After following a couple of links, I came across this...

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/07/060724-snake-blanket.html

The article says its a 12 foot python...weighing 60 lbs...does that sound right?

Oh, and the owner kept the electric blanket in with the snake so it could get warm.  Pshh!!  People, I swear!

I understand this may or may not be a problem, but I have trouble believing the media, especially when it comes to things they have no clue about. The world is full of feral species taking over. I think if this really was the case with pythons, it would still be far less detrimental than what the cane toads are doing. They found hatchlings which alleges that pythons are breeding in the wild, but baby pythons are at the bottom of the food chain in the everglades, so really there isn't any proof that a breeding population can cause damage. I dont know, this is just my opinion, but I hate when uneducated people call the shots for everyone else.
