now my rabbit guy went out of business and I've had to revert to feeding rats.. gave her a 'large' from the pet store yesterday.. what a joke!

You may want to look into getting a freezer and ordering rabbits from RodentPro.Com.  It will be better for the snake, and is really a lot cheaper in the long run, since you can stock up for a couple of months.  We are lucky enough to have them come to our show here in Columbus every month, so we save on shipping, which can get pricey, but if you think about what you spend at a pet store, it really is a lot cheaper.

Sorry Dan, kind of hijacked your thread...  :threadhijacked:

that's good advice.. thanks.. I actually told the girl at the pet store that I was going to order from Rodentpro when I can.. as you say, I need freezer space in order to order enough bulk to justify the shipping.. the savings really does offset the shipping price.. I asked about rabbits.. she said, 'we don't sell them as feeders'.. I smiled and said, 'you wouldn't know what I was buying them for'.. she said, 'I do now'.. lol!..

..great job, Dan!.. Rambo looks like a healthy guy...

..and sorry about the hijack.. the subject just kinda widened-out..  :sign7:

It's all good guys, we're all guilty of a hi-jack or two haha.

Here's my input:

Firstly, rabbits are GREAT!  If you can get a steady supply of them, DO IT!  I am lucky enough to have a personal rabbit breeder and I get them $1 per lb.  Which is a phenomenal price, and the guy ALWAYS has 'em.  He breeds meat rabbits for human consumption so they are fed an amazing diet.  Plus they are show rabbits too (maybe not the ones I get, but he breeds those too)  Rodentpro is great if ya have the money, but shipping is KILLER.  In the end it's definitely worth doing some research for a rabbit breeder in your area and try to strike a deal with him/her.
Not to mention, rats are extremely fatty compared to rabbits.  It's a leaner and more protein rich meat, with less fat.  That is why snakes REALLY start to grow once they start eating them.  So the sooner, the better!  I know the research isn't there but I bet a steady diet of rabbits for the bulk of a snake's life may just increase its overall longevity.  Something I can work on in after I get my degree ;)

And dwg, thanks man!  He's a good growin' afrock without the temper haha.

Oh and yes, the final word....garbage disposal snakes are the greatest ones!!!!!!!  Hahaha!

Yeah I was hesitant to give it to him...but he came at it without hesitation, so I watched him eat it and everything was all goooood.
Lol, well that's good.  So when will you feed him again after this large of a meal?  I mean I've heard they're bottomless pits and all but I wasn't sure if you'd wait longer than normal to feed him again.

Kinda over looked this Tara haha...
Well, I will offer him food come next feeding time.  ONLY if he's defecated.  If not, I won't bother.  If so, I definitely offer...and I'm not offended if he doesn't eat after a meal of this proportion.

Lol, it's okay.  That's good to know though.

My male burm eats piglets, which we get frozen for a $1 a lb. as well. Sometimes my large female burm too, but she is still mainly on rabbits.

Your afrock looks amazing and that was a meaty meal for sure!
