lol me an john just got things straightend out in Pm haha was a bit of a misunderstand, wasn;t me he was barking at in the one post haha.

But yea Abi you hit it on the head, like i told john reason i kept up with the tubing is cuz its simply conversation an education.

Using tubes is alot safer then pinning an animal to give it an examn, medication etc.  Pinning can be verry dangrsou espiclay for venomous snakes. The cartlidge that holds their spine togeather an what not is not as strong as persay a constictor or even a coubrid, so any undue stress like say from pinning an the animal trashes (we all have had a rattler death roll i would say at one time) cna serriously injur the animal. not to mention if whne you pin you go to  get hold wth your hand, the snake slips the pinner or your hands to far forward you still get taged.

I am not trying to make either of these guys use tubes, i am simply stating their uses an why an how it can make life easier with hots when it becomes nessicary.
Like I said before there always come sa time in a keepers lif when you have to put your hands on the snake, thinking you will never have to is simply a false sence when keepin tehse guys unfortunately its soemthing that has t happen sometime an its better to know how then not to ;)

No, Gatorman, I don't think that she was offended by you at all. I think my sarcasm might have tipped the scale a little and for that I apologize. As keepers of any reptiles, we have the responsibility of their care and safety as well as our own. I would expect someone that keeps dangerous creatures of any type to be passionate about them. If tongs and tubes work for you, I think that is great. It is only when you coin the term "responsible" in with a certain technique that doesn't work for me. People, in all types of situations, like to use certain tools and have become very profficient with them (not to say that makes them bullet-proof) because no amount of tools or prep. does so. Some of the most experienced, world-renowned keepers of hot snakes have died and they have earned the right to be called "experts". So, with that being said, if you are starting out, I would first educate myself on housing and handling techniques before jumping into it. The techniques which LBR mentioned would be considered useful and acceptable techniques, but they are not the ONLY techniques that one should know if one intends to be handling venemous reptiles.
Yea, I know..I'm prettier then your girl friend..Not now,I have a headache.

:D exactly

I aint abig fan of tongs unless absolutely nessicary (cept for feeding) because a syou mentioend before they can hurt the snake in the hands of someone whos nervous or just dun know howw to use them. Espiclay Pilstrom tongs.
Knowing how to use the equipment before you ever use it plays a massive role in keeping these guys. An hell none of us hot keepers  realy id un think keep the same way, we all  do what works for us an our animals but  in a sence we all take an learn from everyone else. I know I have come across situations where i was glad that I had watched Viperkeeper on youtube an was able to apply some of what is aw him to do situations  even though they may have been compltely diffrent to be effective.

Something else that  everyon eneeds to understand to, The HOT part of this hobby is NOT like any other. Youw anna see fighting log onto a venomous only forum. I;ve seen some big fights take palce  even over little things so its one of those things lthat as a venomous keeper your expect to be more mature about things an be ready when your challanged in anyway to step up an  explain an educate ;0. For those who aare not hot keepers it may seem silly an non sence but its true. Why do you think peopel who free handel wont show up with those freehandeling pics on a  big venomous forum? because they know whats waiting for them, lol.

Well Im glad thats all straightened out.  I wasn't myself lastnight and I apologize.  I actually tuned in to share some sad news with you guys and when I opened this thread, I was already in a mood and I guess I misunderstood the conversation.  Just before logging on, my wife found my 3 year old timber dead in her tank.  :crying:    She ate her first small rat 4 days ago and has always been healthy.  When my wife told me that she was dead, I ddin't believe her.  I thought she was making some kind of sick joke or she was mistaken.  She was the picture of health, never missed a meal but just like that she's dead.

Thanks.  I still cant believe it.  Ive lost plenty of snakes in my life but most of them were hatchlings that wouldn't eat or wild caught imports that never took to captivity.  But she was always healthy and shes the first snake I ever lost with a full belly.  Im wondering if she wasn't too full.
