Hey guys,

I never really tried my hand at breeding boas, at least in a serious sense.  This past winter, my male red tail was with my female red tail up until early spring.  Now I didn't see anything happen...but some evidence is starting to pop up that something DID happen.  I want to get some takes on this and some advice...The boa isn't even in my hands anymore, it's with one of my best friends (who's getting into boa breeding).  This boa is 11 years old and she has always been super friendly.  Now she is the worst tempered snake ever.  Instant hissing when you open up her cage, and if you stick your hand in she WILL lunge.  Very very strange, she's never done this before.  Nothing is different with her water, setup, temps, nothing...

She acclimated well and already ate for my friend (a 2lb rabbit) and had been fine...but now a sudden mood change?
She's going into a shed cycle and the last 2/3rds of her body looks very swollen.  Her last meal was a week and a half ago.
She's also laying on her side as well.

Could this be a post ovulation shed?  Is she preggo?  Or is she just gravid and ready to accept a male?

sounds like there might be babies... you'll know pretty soon after that shed... lol

I know man that's what I'm sayin!!! Hahah...I'm super pumped but don't wanna get my hopes up.  When I had 'em together I was never home much due to working constantly...so me not seeing anything kinda makes sense...we'll see!

Definitely!  Like I said I wasn't "seriously" trying, I just happened to have 2 mature boas around.  The female is a 7.5' BCI common boa and the male is a solid 6ft+ and still growing BCC, Columbian Red tail.  Very high orange.  So, if it happens, the babies should look pretty nice.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed

There is a lot of debate on this, but there are some true BCC Colombians out there. Gus Rentfro speaks of them, but it is pretty rare to actually have one. Just because locality data is so fuzzy when two different snakes inhabit the same area. Just thought I'd chime in on that :)

Yes, BCIs and BCC both come from Columbia.  Each species seperated by the Andes Mountains, and both having differing scale counts.

And there are lots of BCIs that look like they would be, say, a "true" redtail when in fact they are not.  Especially from Central America, they produce really beautiful locales. 

The man who bred this snake put together 2 Columbian imports, the female being 11' and the male close to 10'.  Massive boas.  And this guy definitely does not look like any Columbian BCI I've ever seen.  Matches perfectly to pictures of Columbian BCCs that I've seen. 

This snake is definitely not of the "common" kind




So either way, if there's babies.  They should be cooooooooooooooooool!!!!

Check out that page, some dude assembled a bunch of pics and people and their HUGE boas.  It's pretty sweet to see some of these monsters!!  Plus, the last picture is actually LAZYGUY and his giant green anaconda.  Hahahaha!!! Small world?
