After much consideration and research, including the VPI article already posted here:
http://www.darksidereptiles.com/forum/index.php?topic=2383.0I have to agree, that a ban on the burms, rocks, or any other, is merely a step to banning them all. I still believe compromise, and rational, reasonable restrictions are necessary, but a ban on burms, retics, and rocks smells to me like the Breed Specific Legislation tatic that the animal rights folks have used so sucessfully against dog owners.
Divide and conqer. Ask pit, rottie, and mastiff owners. All "exotic" owners need to stand in solidarity against an outright, unscientific ban. We must insist that the scientific work be done. Sidesteping the existant review process for fear of some invented danger, must not be allowed on principal.
Smart legslation, based on science and sound social and economic analysis are our best wepons against envasive species; not broad, knee-jerk bans. Today the burms and rocks, tomorrow your pet.
