nohr669.com has posted a update blog entry that says,

"At todays meeting in Congress, only three of the dozen or so Congressmen chose to speak … The committee chair read a statement and stated that an amendment would be introduced at the full committee markup meeting to limit the ban to only burmese pythons and rock pythons. It is not clear if captive bred pets will be affected."

After much consideration and research, including the VPI article already posted here:

I have to agree, that a ban on the burms, rocks, or any other, is merely a step to banning them all.  I still believe compromise, and rational, reasonable restrictions are necessary, but a ban on burms, retics, and rocks smells to me like the Breed Specific Legislation tatic that the animal rights folks have used so sucessfully against dog owners.

Divide and conqer.  Ask pit, rottie, and mastiff owners.  All "exotic" owners need to stand in solidarity against an outright, unscientific ban.  We must insist that the scientific work be done.  Sidesteping the existant review process for fear of some invented danger, must not be allowed on principal.

Smart legslation, based on science and sound social and economic analysis are our best wepons against envasive species; not broad, knee-jerk bans.  Today the burms and rocks, tomorrow your pet.
