ATB that wont shed
« on: July 22, 2009, 02:35:38 PM »
I have a ATB I got him in FEB 09 he hasnt shed since Ive had him...   Oddly he doesnt have stuck shed,  in fact he hasnt went into a shed cycle his skin is somewhat dark but smooth and soft...   So the question is should I go ahead and soak him and see if possibly there is stuck shed,  or just wait and see??

2 1/2 ft, unsure of age humidty stays at 90% every since I begun to worry.  His tank is a 20 gallon tall with a glass top and UTh that keeps the air at around 87 and that part of the tank at 93!!

Steve, Amazon's are funny, they dont shed as often as other snakes, my chondro's would shed 2-3 times before the amazon would.  If it sheds this month, that would sound about right to me, it can go months without shedding, then throw you for a loop and shed 2 month in a row.  Have you contacted Mike H?  What and how often are you feeding him?  How often is it defecating, and lastly are the stools "runny"?

He eats 2 fuzzys once a week and has a stool about every two weeks  and has good solid stools.   I have the same question up on the amazon boards never hurts to ask twice :)  I'm not to overly concerned as Ive seen hundreds and hundreds of shed as you know and Ive even seen a few retained sheds this doesnt really look like that to me.  But thought it worth asking if others had seen this...

Thnx to both of you for replies!

fuzzy mice but the largest fuzzys i can get closer to hoppers actually.  He's narrow enough mice worry me, and he ignored the only small mouse i tried to give him

about 4 days, he's fed every 5 days i say a week but thats my feeding schedule.  I agree they can eat bigger meals in fact I think he could but he wont..  i dont like doubling prey items I prefer one larger one but since he wont take the mice.  My 5 ft female eats much larger meals happily... :)
