Great, expect that this will be bad for us.  In Florida, no less.  The comments at the bottom of the page say it all.  And the "Humane Society" is quoted.  Which one?  I bet I know.  Get ready to fight.

it's all good... people need to be aware of this and some people don't check all sections, hell I'm admin and I don't read everything.. lol. But I hope this is a real eye opener for some people.

This whole situation is messed up and everyone thinks people in florida are the worst big boids owners out there but we're not theres dumb people everywhere I own 1.1 burms and 1.1 retics and I carry my ROC permit and I am legal in the state of florida. I did my reaseach before i ever bought my boids and i care for my snakes just as much as anyone of you. I don't keep my snakes in glass aquariums I use expensive AP cages for everyone of my boids so not everyone is stupid in florida. Sorry about all this its just that everyone seems to blam florida python owners for the recent trys in banning our reptiles and its not the case at all theres idiots in all states.

Let me clarify my comment about Florida.  I wasn't trying to disparage Florida snake owners, or say that Florida has a disproportionately large number of stupid people in general.  I simply meant that it happened in Florida, Sen. Nelson's state and that this story would surely be used by him to push the python ban.  The HSUS couldn't have written better material, and with a hearing right around the corner on the invasive species bill and python ban...  It just doesn't get much better for the HSUS, DOW, and Nelson than this.

Sorry if my comment on Florida was unclear, no offense was intended, and you have my apology.  I actually get your vibe on this.  I am a Texan, and some of the goingin's-on of the succession talk has left me defensive about all the "Wall off Texas" talk.

My comment wasn't towards you hamhouke no applogy needed buddy it was to all the people who commented on yahoo answers about how people are stupid if they keep pythons and their rednecks and all the other stupid ass comments ya i'm a redneck hi-tec but still a dirt neck as we country folk call our selves down here but if some of these jackass' come over to my house and look how i keep  my reptiles its almost impossible for my snakes to escape out of my AP cages unless they are super snake and they break my acrilic doors so needless to say the comment wasn't meant for you homie take care.

I feel so bad for the child who lost her life. That is heartbreaking. Do I feel bad for the parents? NO. They should feel guilty, because they ARE guilty. I keep my snakes in tubs, and have no escapes. A tub is the cheapest and simplest thing you can use, and they work. There is no excuse for that snake to have gotten loose. And anyone who saw the pictures could see the snake looked thin. Another thing, I've read a few articles and each one specifies a different length. To me the snake looked like 6 ft. One article said 8.5 ft and another said 12. If they can't even get a measurement right, what makes me believe they can get the story right? Come on. I hate how they keep saying the man didn't have a permit, but they don't know if any charges will be filed. What in the hell is the purpose of a permit if they aren't going to enforce it? Also, it has been said the caging was inadequate in accordance to Florida law  :sign161: This man should be punished for these two reasons even if the child was not killed. Stories like this make me sick, and reading people's comments on the news sites make me even more sick. Unfortunately idiots like these are the only people who own snakes the public will ever be exposed to on a large scale, so they assume all of us are this careless.

They said they were charging him for not having a permit, which is a 2nd degree misdemeanor,IF he actually gets convicted he COULD do 60 days......big effin deal.This dumbass needs to catch a real case.

you know why i find this to be utter tripe...read each story first off i've read 3 stories on this so far and the burm was 8 1/2ft long..in the next it was 10ft long, no it's 12ft long in this story just an observation...2ndly i know a few reptile owners where i live they've all dealt with escapies, bites, other people's fears...but this is rediculous it's unnecessary rep for the herp nation 1stly, 2nd of all this guy was an amature he wasn't liscensed to have a burm especially for this size unless he's been around these his entire life...lastly i read about what it was secured with..a quilt and some rope..come on lets get serious any person who keeps a REPTILE known escape artists know for a freaking fact to have something a little more secure..now don't get me wrong i'm terribly sorry for their lose any person who has lost a child has endured enough hardship but cut the crap it's his fault not the snake's it's owner was irresponsible...there are plenty of responsible well educated and experienced owner that can take care of a snake that size and can keep it from harming anyone...welcome to the Revenge of HR669 -.- thanks Sen.
