Indented Kraft Paper vs. Newspaper?
« on: June 20, 2009, 02:01:27 PM »
Has anyone used the indented kraft paper?  ( www.uline.com )

i've heard of people using corrugated...

i hate newspaper...it's better than some other "substrates" i've used...but it's not very absorbant and the snakes crinkle in all up all over the cages...

plus, that paper is brown, biodegradable, and in my opinion, more aesthetically pleasing than np....

any opinions?

i'm thinking about throwing down the $40 for a roll ( 2ft x 360ft)

I haven't used it, but it looks like it would work out fine.  When you try it out, please let us know how you like it.  I'm getting a little tired of newspaper myself.

That looks like a good idea, you could probably even turn up the edges to fit your enclosure to make it fit so they couldn't move it around.

you could also go down and get a roll of contractors paper from lowes or home depot for 10 bucks, sounds like it has that same brown look you're going for, and it works well in my cages.

As far as aesthetically pleasing goes, have you concidered cypress mulch, or peat moss?

well... it holds up to retics... lol, honestly, it makes cleaning pretty easy, roll it up, pull it out... wipe down the cage and cut another piece. Definately more absorbant than newspaper, but it's still paper. I'd definately stay away from cypress mulch or peat moss with any terrestrial snakes... especially one that goes to the bathroom as much as a large retic.

Home Depot and Lowes (not sure what is in your area) have unprinted white paper called "packing paper".  It comes in a box of 140 sheets and I think for about 15 or 20 dollars.   Its not too absorbent but easy to roll up and slip out as well. And of course there are always paper towels.

Alot of terrestrial species do great on cypress, i understand burms and retics are large, but besides having to clean up a massive dump, why would you stay away from cypress or moss?  Just curious, D!
