Well I was slackin and missed the swallow but she nailed it LOL. That thing was 9lbs, lots of meat, some fat and even skin on one side and bone in the center so it should cover all the bases.    :lolsign:  Sorry for the eventless post guys, nest time I'll get good footage.   :banghead:

I hate to be a thread spoiler, but im not sure that meat meets the nutritional requirements of well ~ boids.  Im not a large boid expert or anything, but maybe someone with a little more experience will chime in.  One question though, why not rats and rabbits?  Just curious, looking forward to your reply!

tho a full bodied meal would include organs that contain concentrates..ie the liver, heart,,ect and add even more nutriants(excuse my spelling),,i dont think there will be much of a difference to them as they are captive and thus use less energy to live then a wild snake would,,my worry would be the preservatives and dyes used in processing of human food,,hmm...interesting topic

as explained above that meat had just a bone inside, which dont satisfy the nitricious needs of a burm or any snake to be honest, and the snake needs the hair/fur/feather's too.... so if this was done just once id didnt did any harm to the snake but should not be done at all IMO.

life's a bitch...

Not to mention the growth hormones that are added also. I'd stick with rats and rabbits for boids, they have all the nutrition that is needed.

good point kricket,,i hadnt even thought of that,as for hair and bone that is a good source of calcium and protein, tho the store meat still has bone for cal,,and as  any meat is a protein in itself,as dean said once,,,or once in a blue moon shouldnt do any harm,,and maybe even if done on a regular basis the snakes body may become use to the different levels of ingrediants and be fine with it,,,but why risk it,,plus isnt it more expensive if not on sale?..all in all id say ok for once or once in awhile,,but the risk outweighs the ease,,id stick with the norm's,,but in the end its still all up to you :stirthepot:

Well I thought of all these things the first time I bought meat from a store and did my research. The meat I buy is guaranteed to be free of growth hormones and grain fed from pesticide free corn on midwest farms. I'm not convinced that they need fur or feathers either, because whenever mine dump out the left overs theres always fur in it. This meat that I buy is only dated for sale in the store for 5 days,so theres not a lot of preservatives involved. Rats, for a 13' 80lb Burm are just not an option. I take rabbits when I can get them, but they are scarce around here in the summer. I would order frozen but I don't have a freezer yet and Im not paying shipping to have stuff brought in here every week.I've used select meats for a few years and both of my big Burms are healthy SOLID snakes, not a bunch of fat sloths laying around. They are pretty active for Burms, alert and are shedding and laying eggs like little champs. I nornally buy small whole pigs from a Native American lady who raises them near here, but she can't quite keep up LOL.IMO I don't think they are missing the hooves and guts, but I'm no expert I just figured if they got by on whole pigs, why not parts of bigger pigs? I just do what I can to make sure they get fed when I can't get "normal" feeders.
