Got a question for you guys out there that own snakes....

Do you guys feed youre snakes inside their terrainium or in a seperate container? I myself have done it both ways, but I just wanted to know what others did it like and felt more comfertable doing it?

I feed in their cage. I have never had to move animals to a different area to feed them, nor do I recommend it.  With a lot of animals it's time consuming, and stressful to the snake.

I feed in my enclosure.  In my situation, Boots has always been fed in there.  I do recommend hook training for all animals though and feeding in the enclosure.  It is much less stressful for the animal and also decreases the risk of anyone getting hurt.

Definately in the cage. For the Reasons already stated, and the fact that moving a 15-20 foot retic that's in kill mode from a feed box back to a cage is just a very, very dangerous situation. And like Tara said, hook train, so the snake knows you're not food when it sees the hook and you're coming into the cage.

Personally, no I don't.  I think that it depends on the specific snake and hook training is definetely advised if you're feeding inside the enclosure.

Not at all. This is a common misconception. Feed Response, and Aggression are two different things. Feed response doesn't make a snake mean, it just makes it hungry. The hook training is the exact same concept as a feed box. It's conditioning, teaching the snake when to expect food and when not to. If a snake has always been fed in a seperate container, just seeing that container sends it into feed mode. That may not be a big deal with a ball python, but you my friend keep a retic.... not a snake you want deciding your food.
