Hamburger, my growing western diamonback...she is about 7 months old now and growin' good!




This is Excelsior, my new South Pacific Rattlesnake!  This girl is BEAUTIFUL...such a crisp pattern, love it!

very nice looking rattlers, but i see your in ny and its illegal to keep venomous snakes in ny unless you have a permit which from what i have heard its pretty impossible to get a permit in ny.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure if a permit is required Dan would have one.  ;)

I've had mine since I was 16.  But you are correct, they are not filing new applicants with venomous reptile permits at this time.  DEC in NY is really strange.  They're still working on permits for all the big snakes too...which now has been taking 4 years.

you have had the rattle snakes since you were 16 or have had the permit since you were 16 ?

The permit...I had it for a few years then didn't renew it, then I got it re-instated for the rattlers.

they gave permits to 16 year olds?  they must have changed a lot over the years nows it impossible to get one

Yeah looking back, I'm pretty surprised they gave a 16 year old a license, I figured you had to be at least 18.  Really what NY DEC is trying to do is not to keep people from getting the animals but to track what is currently going on in NY.  There is a dude named Joe that works there and is head of the special licensing unit (and also an ornothologist) and he is a good dude.  Pretty much explained that to me...there is just a lot of legislation flying around with the venomous animals and large constrictors and they're trying to set it straight with permits.  It's just taking forever.
