Macklot Python Questions
« on: May 18, 2009, 03:00:11 AM »
I saw a amazing 6 or so ft near patterness male with a beautiful olive green venteral side at the show today.  I was empressed with the feel of it.  And his temperament was calm, deliberate, and docile.  He was for sale at about $175 and I very nearly left the show with him.  But, calmer heads prevailed and I figured I should do some research before taking on a snake that large.  I hit the web and started looking up care sheets, etc..   Problem was, a lot of the info I found was either directly contradictary, or not specific to the Macklot.

I am still seriously considering picking him up, but wanted to know where I could get some good info on them.  I know at least a couple of us have them.  What do you think of them.  Is this super-docile temperament typical of an adult?  I have heard both ways.  I am not ready for a 7 ft long agressive snake, and I would want to use him for education if I could.

Can anyone point me to a care sheet they consider accurate?

LOL I'm still having trouble with an accurate care sheet...we are flying by the seat of our pants with our guy...

we keep his temps about 95 on the hot with ambient of roughly 80-85 degrees...

we try to keep his humidity up around 60%...we also give him a bath every week to two weeks just to let him swim in the tub...he loves it...

as for temperament, our guy is very docile, only bitten when (no names here) someone didn't wash their hands after handling a rat...

he does get hissy from time to time, but has not showed any aggression whatsoever to any of us...he "crawls" across our 5 yr old and is very curious...wants to get under or around or into everything...loves hangin out on the chair...have quite a few pics of that lol...

any other questions, feel free to ask

PS we are unaware of his age only that he was "full grown" when we got him...we've fattened him up quite a bit...I think we're spoiling him but he's my first snake, so...lol

When we first brought him home...

Last week...

Me holding him this last winter...

Off topic but damn Ivy, that snake has done some serious progress  :goodjob:
And religion, like the monster that it is
Keeps telling you to turn the other cheek
God is on your side, but I don't think that you're on his,
If Jesus showed up now he'd be in jail by next week !!!
