« on: May 08, 2009, 07:01:19 PM »
I was looking at zim today and i noticed a orange color on his underside and a few scales are a darker shade...it doesn't look like the normal pink of shed and i'm just worried...i'll post pics here in a sec to see if that will help.

I don't see much of anything there... what kind of bedding are you using? and what kind of heat source?

If you're worried about it, I'd switch to paper and belly heat.

Yeah I'd have to agree with Donnie.

the cloth wont hurt it at all... and undertank heater will stick to the bottom of the tank... but you will need a temp gun, and a dimmer switch or thermostat. Honestly it's alot better for all terrestrial snakes. Now as for scale rot... that only happens from dirty conditions, which even if you spot clean your cage twice a day, you can miss some wet aspen which is usually right under where they're laying... I don't see anything there that looks like scale rot to me, but I can't see it as well as you can.

My biggest female ball has had this a couple times since I got her and just to be safe I put some neosporin  or similar antibiotic cream on it. She had a mild case of scale rot wheh we got her and  this has appeared in the same general area.  She is now kept on paper towel in a plastic tub full time to avoid any further recuerances.
