ug zim hasn't eaten in three weeks and won't even react to the food...he'll move away from it but won't strike or show intrest at all...his temperatures have been between 80 and 85 on the warm side, he's on aspin bedding and i've already checked him for mites and pests (finding none), he's still active at night and will crawl around the tank, the humidaty was a little high for a bit (about 65) but has gone down to about 50 now...he does have a female bunking with him but they have seperate hides and he chooses to bunk with her.... should i be worried or is it just because he's not hungry?

How old is he?

Could be that time of year when snakes tend to go off of feed.

Why do you think he has scale rot?

Well I don't know how big he is, but we had an albino male that was around 475 grams go off food for over 9 MONTHS and finally ate a meal on Friday.  Yes we were very worried the whole time and kept close eye on him for any other health issues.  He came around and ate again.

Another issue is if he is housed with a female he may be defering to her or he may be going off food thinking it is breeding season.  Also unless we are breeding them our ball pythons are kept in seperate enclosures.

80 to 85 on the warm side is cooler than we like to keep our warm sides.  We like to keep our warm sides on the actual bottom of the enclosure around 88 to 91 degrees F.  The cool side is generally 78 to 82 degrees F for us.

Just some ideas to try!

like gloryhound said.. 88-92 on the hot said... 90 is perfect.... and high 70's on the cool.... however that is SURFACE temp on the floor, not air temp at the back wall. You will need a temp gun for this (it's not a luxury, it's a necessity). And you'll find it's alot easier to adjust your belly heat with a dimmer switch than it is trying to find the right wattage bulb to get the right temp and dry out your air...  Belly heat will aid in digestion which in turn will help the feeding responce. And you should definately seperate these animals until next breeding season.

yeah the temps are from a ground temp. I have an air thermomitor in the tank as well but i go off the electronic readings. and he's on newspaper now since the possibility of scale rot. I'm treating him with some neosporan at the moment and the redness is starting to fade out. so that's a good sign....I'll keep an eye on things and inform you as time goes on.

You say redness?  Could it be a pinkish belly that commonly occurs as they get ready to go into blue?  Just double checking and making sure this isn't the case.

Now this is orange/red like infected and he's got some rust colored scales along the edges. its not the pink red he gets when he sheds. I know that color.
