the only time i use wc prey items is if the animal i am feeding it to is accustomed to wc prey because it is wild itself. frankly woodrats (which are what we have in the us) an feild mice, smell diffrently then captive bred so  manyt imes it is eaiser with a wc animal to get them to start eatig wc prey then  slowly move them onto captive prey.
Wc prey  that has been froen can be used for scenting in some cases. Viperkeeper  keeps a wc bullfrog that wa skille don the road for scenting his pinks an what not for his hots that prefer  amphibians etc.
but as far as  say cathing a rbabit or rat thats wild an feeding it to a captive raised animal... nah.. no point.

just a Question !  Dont you think it's unsafe to get wc prey ,  for the chance that they might have gotten into the tool shed or the neighbors and been exposed to harmful chemicals that could possably hurt or kill your animal?

not to mention pick up diseases and parasites in the wild that the first wild caught animal hadn't happened to come accross yet....

I do rehab guys, an when you have an animal that is already stressed out for whatever reason  - injury etc.  Forcefeeding is a Ultimate LAST resort. There for I will Exhaust every means I have to get the animal to eat.

Do I worry about  posion, parasites etc? Yes but it would be no diffrent for the animal crusin threw the yard to snag the same prey at the same risk.

Untill you sit down an attempt to forcefeed a6 foot Rattler that has no wish to e cuoperative you wont realy understand it an will possibly sit back an ontinue to argue it.

Feeding WC prey to a Captive breed animal - No  Using WC Prey to Scent food for a Cpative animal = Fine
Feeding Wc Prey to aWc animal untill you can get it over onto Cb Prey - Fine

I agree, forced feeding for snakes really should be left as a last resort.  However, maybe that opens up a market for captive bred field mice - hmmmm

Actualy  me an a friend have been tryint o collect enough speciimines to do just that with varrious rodents but 9 times outa 10 feild mice are way to high strung once cought an either panic them selves todeath or justw ont breed. The wood rats though tame down but we have yet to have sucess with them breeding wise.

I bred a wild female mouse into my lab mice as an experiment years ago. She was crazy and wild. Her first litter seemed pretty crazy like her, but they were handleable (they would jump, but no biting). It was interesting to do a couple generations and see how long it took them to be like a lab mouse.
