Ok if it is a eye cap its more than one. And if it thats other thing can it be fixed? I will post picks of both eyes and of her later tonight when I have help with taking pics. And we werent just going to pull them off we were going to soak in a warm wash cloth and slowly and gentely rub thats what we do with the female het pied she is a problem shedder or was now shes not.
This is what we were told from our specialized reptile vet in Butler, PA (we miss him and are still looking for a good replacement) he also took care of a lot of the animals at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
If it is Corneal Edema it can generally be cured. Most of the time the Vet will give you an Antibiotic lotion/cream that you will apply to the eye for 2 to 3 weeks. As long as some kind of abrassion (slight scratch or scuff) exists in the eye the lotion will take care of the bacterial infection. No Corneal Edema is not contagious. In some cases where whe cloudiness does not clear up with the lotion and is thick enough to be blinding in and of itself the vet can attempt to use a needle and draw out the cloudy bacteria type substance then go back to the lotion till the needle puncture is healed to avoid having bacteria get back in. Only problem with using the needle is if the vet goes so much as half a millimeter too deep he can cause permament blindness and it is done while the snake is awake. That is the reason a vet will generally not go after an eye that is only slightly cloudy that the snake most likely still has some sort of vision through.
With that said, while it is not desireable, a snake can lead a perfectly happy life and be blind in the eyes. Most snakes use their heat pitts combined with their keep sense of taste (Yes a ball python can actually taste a rat in the air well before actually seeing it, that is why their tongues go crazy sometimes) to see more so than their actual eyes.
I have a good photo of a snake that we got from a big name breeder that came to us with this condition. (Actually two snakes our of three we got from them through Fed-Ex had the condition.) I will post it up tonight. He is actually doing very well now after just using the cream. His sister has some light cloudiness that we were not able to clear up with the cream, but she is doing OK and is now about 19 to 20 months old.
I'm not going to put the name of the breeder up here in a public forum as I am not into breeder bashing on public forums. If someone really has to know they can PM me and I will share the info along with the full detailed story.
