« on: March 22, 2009, 05:07:24 PM »
Here are pictures of a mating pair of Mangrove Snakes I just got.  Sorry the picture quality is poor.

Male Mangrove, he is a lot smaller and a lot nicer.

Female Mangrove

You know how some women hate their picture taken

How often do you handle these guys??  And obviously since they are venomous, you do use the hook right??  I was just reading up on them and was curious.

They are such a beautiful species, but being as I've never handled anything even comparable to their temperments or venomous yet, I would love just to learn about them :)

We just had a big discussion of these on my forum. Sadly, they are quite illegal for us to own here without proper permits. :/ to bad huh.

Of course I use a hook when handling them, safety first. They are rear fanged and mildly venomous.  A nasty snake is actually easier to handle, because you know where they are coming from.  I just got them so I have only handled them a few times.  They will be handled for cage cleaning and feeding time and at shows, other than that I do not handle my snakes just for fun.

Thanks Tara

No, thank you Jerry.  I read a bunch about them last night as well as several other venomous species.  I am not sure what websites that you recommend for people to read about venomous species, but I was just browsing and came upon www.venomous.com.  It seems that the mangroves are just mildly venomous to humans according to this article that I found, http://www.news.vcu.edu/vcu_view/pages.aspx?nid=1732, where a doctor is studying the venom for it's uses as far as human therapeutic drugs.  Kinda neat what you can find on www.google.com lol!!

Thanks again for posting ;D
